West Syriacs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

West Syriacs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "he Western Syriac people, also West Syriacs, Western Assyrians, Syrian Jacobites, Syriac-Aramaeans and variants (see Names of Syriac Christians) are an ethnic group, forming a sub-group of the Assyrian/Syriac group of Syriac Christians.

They are adherents of the West Syrian Rite of the Syriac Orthodox Church and Syriac Catholic Church, for which reason they are also known as Jacobites (named after Jacob Baradaeus).

Their original homeland lies in what is now parts of Syria and Turkey. Following the Syriac genocide in the early 20th century, many fled abroad, and a significant portion today lives in diaspora.

Many Syriacs, especially those among the deaspora claim that they are descendants of the ancient Aramaeans (viz., the Neo-Hittite kingdoms of the Levant during and after the Bronze Age collapse)."
